Good Earth Reopens in Greenbelt 3 with New Look, More Choice Dishes

True. That, plus a Php299 Eat-All-You-Can promo as a welcome gift to both new and old customers. The Good Earth Tea Room reopens at the 2nd Level of Greenbelt 3 in Makati City with a fresher look and an improved line up of authentic Asian dishes. I know I'm just as excited as you are.

After undergoing renovation last month, now the only remaining Good Earth resto opens its doors with a more cozy and inviting ambiance which is reminiscent of its original look when it first opened in the metropolis. This old-new ambiance adds to the overall effect of making diners feel that they are in a relaxing as well as thrilling place when it comes to gastronomic adventure.

Good Earth Chef Henry Cheung’s training in the kitchens of Hong Kong and his being an audacious traveler resulted in his fusion-style of cooking, merging Chinese with Western influences. Chef Cheung’s modern and innovative take on dishes makes Good Earth dishes a pleasant surprise even to those who are used to the more traditional Chinese cooking.

And, as a welcome gift to both its loyal patrons as well as new diners, Good Earth is offering an Eat-All-You-Can buffet menu consisting of 12 items including appetizers, main course and rice for only Php299.

Starting off in 1994 as a small eatery in an independent art gallery in Magallanes, Good Earth has been offering its fusion cuisine comprising appetizers like Tunaquitos, a cleansing dish of raw tuna with spring onions served in a taco shell with white sauce and wasabi, and a version of the popular Tex-Mex taquito, the Duckquitos, made up of roast duck with white sauce and black sesame seeds still in the traditional taco shell.

There is also Lily on the Pond, a delectable steamed dimsum made of a mix of vegetables and prawns in a spicy curry and white coconut cream sauces, as well as Crispy Chicken Pao and Duck Siopao.

Good Earth’s mouth-watering entrée include Popoy’s Delight, a delicious harmony of steamed fish with ham, the Crab Claws with Tamarind sauce, Pan Fried Lapu-Lapu with Mango Sauce, as well as the Lobster Ball.

Chicken lovers should also try Good Earth’s Sautéed Chicken with Pine Nuts and Lettuce, Drunken Chicken with Century Egg, Shantung Spicy Chicken, and Crispy Peking Chicken. Beef and pork specialties include Spicy Nanking Beef or Beef in Oyster Sauce, Spareribs with Mandarin Sauce or Crispy Pork.

For inquiries and reservations, you may contact the Good Earth Tea Room Greenbelt at (+632) 757-4561 to 62.

Kraft Eden Cheese Saves Christmas: 5,000 Cheese Dishes To be Whipped Up This December 2009!

In the Philippines, Kraft is already a household name. Pinoys use Kraft Eden Cheese in cooking, from salads and desserts to sandwiches and stews. I, for instance, use it for my omellete, spaghetti and fruit salad. It's no wonder Kraft Philippines has decided to forge stronger ties with Pinoys through their kitchens in their latest project.

Photobucket

Last Saturday, I tagged along with my blogger friend Joy to Manila Hotel where Kraft unveiled its plan to surpass India's achievement in the Guinness Book of World Records. Kraft aims to whip up 5,000 cheese dishes to outnumber India's 4,668. But it's not just about showing the world the Filipino's creativity in the kitchen. It's more on saving Christmas for Pinoys, particularly those that were badly affected by the recent typhoons. Inspiring, isn't it?

The Maynila Ballroom of the historic Manila Hotel stood witness to Kraft's ambitious goal. There, a sumptuous 7-course meal (all dishes were made of cheese!) was served to guests composed of chefs, culinary students, bloggers and members of the press.

Admittedly, that lunch was one of the best I've ever had. From the starter to the dessert, everything was gastronomically satisfying. I never imagined I could eat cheese from start to finish without losing my appetite. It must be due to the refreshing sherbet they served or I was just really hungry that morning. But I digress.

The grand Kraft Eden Cheese cooking challenge, by the way, will be held on December 14, 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum. It will be participated in by culinary students, cooks and chefs from all over the Philippines. If you wanna be part of history, visit http://sarapngbuhay.com now.

Haagen-Dazs Opens in Robinsons Place-Ermita

Robinsons Place-Ermita or Robinsons Place-Malate? No matter what name you call it, the fact that it was my favorite hang-out place back in college cannot be erased. It used to be a tiny mall but things have changed recently. They have grown in size and in form. From a dozen or so shops, it now boasts of more than a hundred, all of them trendy brands. And they're adding more as evidenced by the continued improvements I saw on my way to the Midtown Wing where Haagen-Dazs formally opened a store Thursday last week. Yes, the mall now housed one of the richest and creamiest luxury ice cream brands on the planet. Cool.

The store opening, which I was fortunate to witness, was fun and the concept by which they presented it was lively and entertaining. Instead of the usual fashion shows, they had a three-act show. Three lovely girls portrayed three different roles: experiencing three different stages in their lives and finding comfort in Haagen Dazs ice cream in the end. First was a young artist trying to compose a song. She found inspiration in a pint of slow-melting Haagen Dazs ice cream. The second girl just broke up with her boyfriend. She was depressed and the thought of Haagen Dazs made her feel a little better. The last was a girl who has just got promoted in her job. She celebrated her triumph with her friends over Haagen Dazs ice cream. The presentation sent a strong message that Haagen Dazs is indeed a comfort food and can be your best company in good or even bad times. And with the opening of its Robinson-Ermita store, Haagen Dazs has just become more accessible to Pinoys wanting a taste of this luxury ice cream right in the metro.

The ribbon-cutting, on the other hand, was done by no less than US Ambassador to RP Kristie Kenney and Robinsons Land Corp. Business Unit General Manager Cornelio Mapa. It was welcomed by the media with utter excitement and delight.

The two personalities also did a ceremonial ice cream scooping. Haagen Dazs-Robinsons Place Ermita is actually the third company-owned Haagen Dazs shop in the Philippines. It follows a global design philosophy developed in the United Kingdom so expect to see lovely furniture and freezers and dipping cabinets designed in Italy on your visit.

Thanks to my blogger friend Rowena and Haagen Dazs Philippines for inviting me to this event. It was a pleasure knowing Haagen Dazs as a brand, meeting the people behind it and enjoying the goodness of its latest product, the Haagen Dazs Dark Chocolate Orange Ice Cream. The cocktails from TGIF was delicious, too. I so loved their salad dressing.

Pinoy Scrambled Egg Recipe

Weekends are an opportune time for me to experiment in the kitchen. On Sunday mornings, I make it a point to cook breakfast for my family. One lazy Sunday, I experimented on eggs and whipped up my own pinoy scrambled egg that made use of hotdogs, longaniza sausage, carrots, tomatoes, onions and cheese. Interested? Here's my very own pinoy scrambleg egg recipe:

Photobucket

4 medium eggs (beat in a bowl and added with salt)
4 pcs. Purefoods hotdog
4 pcs. CDO Funtastik longaniza (looks and tastes like Jollibee longaniza!)
1 medium carrots, finely chopped
1 small onions, diced
2 small tomatoes, diced
cheese (Eden)
pure olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

1. In a hot pan, pour in some pure olive oil. When the oil becomes hot, throw in the onions. Wait until they become transparent and when they are, throw in the tomatoes.

2. Add the hotdog and the longaniza to the mix. Wait for five minutes while stirring occasionally. Make sure to keep the fire low so as not to burn the onions.

3. Pour in the beaten egg, carrots and cheese. Add some salt and pepper. When the egg is partially cooked and the cheese has melted a bit, flip the sides according to your desired consistency. Mine is a bit soft and saucy:

4. Serve your pinoy scrambled egg immediately.

Plato Wraps: Light and Filling but Pricey

I got to taste Plato Wraps for the first time this afternoon at their stall in SM Manila. It serves folded sandwiches made of pita bread and your choice of filling. I went for chunky chicken because Girlie (my officemate) once said it's her favorite. I'd have to agree with her that it's delicious. Mine was light but filling. I found it a bit pricey, though.

Photobucket

"Plato Wraps started in Dagupan City, Pangasinan where Antonio Seen grew up with the smell of baked goodies in his father’s 50-year-old bakery. Plato Wraps offers budget meals wrapped in pita bread grilled hot when served. It comes in various fillings such as chunky chicken, ham and cheese, wrap n' roll, yummy tuna, wrap n’ roll, pizza and very veggie (for health buffs)."

Photobucket

forgive this not so decent photo taken from my Nokia E63 (2 megapixel, no autofocus), this is just to give you an idea of how my sandwich looked like

You see, an order of chunky chicken costed me P46 (approximately $1 USD). Had I upgraded the pita used to pesto pita, I would have added P12 and for wheat pita, P10. I hadn't even gotten myself a drink yet. I know they're paying rent and all, but for a small sandwich that tastes good but takes only three or four bites to finish, it's too much. I hope they could lower the price a bit. In my opinion, a few pesos will do. Or, they could just add a small drink to make the P46 Plato wrap a value meal. Not bad, methinks. :)
