I had a fun night Tuesday last week when I got an invite for a food tasting at Figaro Tomas Morato Branch. The 100% Filipino-owned coffee company, that has been advocating the use of locally-grown coffee beans for years now, has just launched four new coffee concoctions and four new All-Day breakfast fares. If that wasn't enough, they even let us sample their other tasty treats such as the Margherita and the Spagnolo Sardine pizzas, the Pepperoni and the Italian Sausage calzones and the Tiramisu Eclair. If you thought you could only get caffeine-laden beverages and sugary bread from coffee shops, you better think again.

Among the four new drinks offered to us, I chose the Blackberry Mocha Frost. It was a refreshing, ice-blended drink with a creamy mocha flavor and hints of blackberry. It's a good alternative if you can't stand a glass of iced coffee beverage like me or when you wanna try something else aside from your fave chocolate-flavored drink.
I had a hard time choosing from Figaro's All-Day Breakfast Fares. My inherent fondness for beef made me get the Beef Tapa Supreme. It consisted of some marinated beef slices, a sunny side-up egg, tomato-cucumber relish and a cup of garlic rice with crunchy garlic bits on top.I liked how the beef was juicy, tender and flavorful. Though I prefer my sunny side-up egg to have a well-done yolk, I found the runny yolk on that instant quite appealing.
The two personalized pizzas we sampled were distinctively delicious. The Margherita pizza had fresh basil, tomatoes and mozarella cheese. Each bite was as tasty and fresh as it could get. The Spagnolo pizza, on the other hand, had Spanish sardines, green bell pepper, black olives, fresh tomatoes and pizza and mozarella cheeses. The spicy Spanish sardines added a kick to this full-flavored, tasty pizza.
For both the pepperoni and the Italian sausage, the meat are sliced thinly and mixed with cheese and spices before they get stuffed inside the soft, chewy dough. The Italian sausage calzone I tasted was very filling and satisfying. I think I could finish two in one sitting. And did I mention the serving was huge?
We also tried two kinds of pasta dishes that night. One was the Aglio Oglio in its very simple yet tasty form and the mildly spicy but delicious Piccanti Gamberetti or pasta in olive oil, spices and shrimps. Both pasta dishes were good. I loved that Figaro uses only the freshest ingredients to make them.
For desserts, we were served with the new Tiramisu Eclair. This was tiramisu-flavored cream sandwiched between two cream puff pastry dough. The top was drizzled with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with almond nuts to give it a heavenly finish. It was light, creamy and not too sweet. It was one guilt-free dessert that you'll surely enjoy.
Thank you very much to Figaro Coffee Company and to our PR friend Annesy del Mundo for the invite.
