I first learned about Holdak from two of the few blogs I read regularly. I got curious because I'm a big fan of Korean fried chicken and both bloggers said they can't get enough of it. Wow, if that's the case, then I should try it asap. But my visit to Holdak didn't happen until last night. It was a dinner with the hubby. We chose their mini meals (2-piece chicken with rice) and got a serving of their cabbage salad in tuna-mayo dressing. It was one yummy and affordable dining experience that I wouldn't mind repeating over and over!
Unlike other Korean fried chicken, Holdak's uses thigh fillets and comes in four different sauces: yang-nyam, spicy yang-nyam, padak and jack daniels. We've only tried two: yang-nyam and padak. Between them, I prefer the yang-nyam because of its combination of sweet, sour and salty flavors with very mild spice. The padak sauce is too sweet for my liking.
Mini Meal Yang-Nyam, P99
As for the chicken's overall taste and texture, I found the breaded thigh fillets very tasty, crunchy and juicy. The presence of some chicken fat added a depth of flavor to it. I can eat this everyday if I'm not concerned about my bad cholesterol level. Haha. Seriously, this one's so good and addicting!
Mini Meal Padak, P99
The Cabbage Salad, on the other hand, was so sulit at P35. The tuna-mayo dressing went well with the fresh, crispy cabbage shreds. If you're on a diet, this could pass as a meal in itself. How can something so light be so yummy?
Holdak only has one branch yet and it's on Mezza Strip in Sta. Mesa, Manila. The store is quite small and could sit around 20 people inside and a few more outside. It's well-lighted and well-ventilated. It also has neat and clean interiors. The staff are attentive, too, though I don't find them friendly enough. Smile, smile din pag may time. :)

Super budget friendly. Double-frying din ba systema nila? Nakakatakot nga ang cholesterol content, pero solb naman ang lutong. :-p
ReplyDeleteDouble frying, yes, I think so. I can't wait to eat there again. Tara! :)
ReplyDeleteSige, minsan isang lunch time. Mag-double date tayo sa double fried chicken na yan. ;)
