Gavino's Donuts are Love!

After our Persian dinner at Kebab Depot, we headed straight to Gavino's Donuts, Coffee and Milk Tea for some sweet and chewy donuts. They have pon de rings and pon de balls, cool names for their donuts. The pon de rings are jewel/flower-shaped donuts while the pon de balls are small, donut balls with special filling in the middle.

The pon de rings sell at P29 per piece, P39 if you get the premium flavors. The pon de balls, on the other hand, are priced at P15 per piece, P25 for the premium flavors. They cost less if you buy in half or one dozen.

Gavino's donuts are chewy and not too sweet. I liked how the chewy consistency of the dough gives my mouth a playful tug-of-war that lasts for a few seconds to a minute. Haha. It's good, too good that you'll end up eating more than just a piece, I tell you.

One particular donut that caught my attention was the cinnamon sugar one (on the picture, it's the one beside the donut with M&M's on top). It has a soft, cake-like texture. The cinnamon and sugar flavors were rich and satisfying enough to make you want more.

The Much-Anticipated Sweet Surrender Dessert Expo!

I love desserts. I guess I got my sweet tooth from my mom. They say for every dessert lover, there is a corresponding dessert. I think my perfect match is a slice of sinful, flourless chocolate cake. This Saturday, November 13, 2010, a big dessert event is happening at Sitio Elena (Ortigas Extension) dubbed as 'Sweet Surrender.' For dessert lovers out there, this is your chance to find out which dessert is the most suited to you.

Brunch with Bobby Chinn (Plus Dessert-Tasting!) at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf-Boni Hi-Street Branch

Discovery Travel and Living's World Star Asia Cafe (Season 1 and 2) has been received well by its international audience primarily because of it's host, high-octane chef Bobby Chinn. This charmer who has both Egyptian and Chinese lineages invaded Manila last week and met up with the media and the bloggers at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf-Bonifacio High Street Branch. Bobby Chinn not only have a great sense of humor, he's also very smart and accommodating. Surely, this guy will go to more places.

CBTL was generous as usual, serving us with its good coffee and even better desserts.I really got stuffed with the Chicago cheesecake, Camembert Oreo cheese tart, choco fudge, warm chocolate cake, lemon square and triple berry coffee cake served to us by the friendly CBTL staff, one after another. These yummy treats were paired with CBTL's signature coffee beverages such as espresso coffee (not so sure about the name!), cafe latte and chai latte. Among the three, I fell in love with the chai latte. It was soothing and warm.

Bobby Chinn gave a short but very entertaining talk about his humble beginnings and his daily experiences, from being a banker to being a restaurateur and as a celebrity chef at present.I also learned that Bobby Chinn run several highly acclaimed restaurants (e.g. Camargue, Saigon Joe’s, Miro and Red Onion Bistro, formerly the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” prison) in Vietnam before opening his own Asian Fusion restaurant in Hanoi. He's really been very successful in his chosen field. No doubt about that.

Oh, and did I mention that Bobby Chinn loves Manila? He said our people are warm and are always seen smiling. He doesn't have plans to open a resto in Manila, though. I hope he changes his mind soon. :)

P.S. Many thanks to CBTL-Boni High Street and the Geiser Maclang people for the invite.
