Delightful Brunch at Heaven and Eggs, Glorietta 4

It was my first time to dine at Heaven and Eggs, Glorietta 4, Makati last Saturday. I was with my blogger friends and we had a sort of brunch feast there. We partook of several American and Filipino breakfast fares which all turned out to be gastronomically fulfilling. I've been hearing a lot of raves about Heaven and Egg's eat-all-you-can breakfast online and I'm glad the restaurant didn't disappoint during our visit even if we just ordered straight off the menu.

Allow me to share with you photos of our orders:

Untitled

This Angus Beef Tapa (P390) hit the spot! The meat was tender, juicy, tasty and oh-so flavorful. I enjoyed eating this with the garlic fried rice and instead of the usual sunny side up eggs, I paired it with the salted egg which I thought complemented the richness of tapa. If you're eating at Heaven and Eggs anytime soon, this is a must-order. As in!

Untitled

Another favorite among our group was the Lovin Lucban Longganisa (P310). It had six pieces of garlicky longganisa, grilled tomatoes, a slice of salted egg plus two sunny side up eggs and garlic fried rice. I liked the crunch, flavor and meatiness of the longganisa. Dipping it in the vinegar provided made it more pleasurable to eat. Yum!

Untitled

The Classic Manila Ribs (P330) was oozing with smoky, porky goodness! The ribs was barbecued just right so the meat turned out to be tender and juicy. No need to dip it in the sweet and sour sauce that went with it.

Untitled

This is aptly called Steak and Eggs (P998). It had 8oz. of USDA rib-eye steak served with two sunny side up eggs (you can actually choose to have your eggs any style!), a hash brown and buttered corn kernels. We had the steak cooked medium-well and after it landed our table, everybody started digging in.

Untitled

This Grilled Tocino (P255) I didn't get to try but my friends said it was also delish.

We also had pancakes and waffles! These served as our "desserts" because we started our brunch with rice. Haha.

Untitled

This Apple Cinnamon Pancakes (P185) was beautifully topped with caramelized apple slices and toasted walnuts. The pancakes were made with cinnamon and sugar so I could really taste the rich cinnamon flavor in every bite.

Untitled

I found the Oreo Pancakes (195) a bit dry and thought it could use some syrup or perhaps, some condensed milk? But still, we finished 'em flap jacks because they were fluffy and generously filled with Oreo cookies!

Untitled

The Chocolate Chips Waffle (P195) was the crowd favorite. It had milk and dark chocolate filling and was topped with whipped cream.

Untitled

Personally, I liked the Fruity Tootie Waffles (P235) the best! The assorted fruit compote and whipped cream on top provided a touch of freshness and added a nice flavor to the hot iron waffles.

To assist in digesting all these glorious food, I had their Lemonade Cooler P85). Untitled

I also had a cup of Hot Chocolate P100) to further perk myself up. Actually, I find eating pancakes and waffles more enjoyable with a cup of hot chocolate. Haha. Untitled

Heaven and Eggs is a casual restaurant that serves American and Filipino breakfast favorites not just in the morning but all day! The place is very intimate and not intimidating at all. The prices are reasonable and the service is quite good, too. I'd love to take my family there some time!

Untitled our group

P.S. Thank you to my blogger friend Alex and my PR friend Xchosa for inviting me to this resto. See you guys around! :)

24 Ways to Enjoy Your Crabs at The Red Crab Alimango House!

Last Friday night, the hubby and I were at Lucky Chinatown Binondo so I could attend The Red Crab Alimango House's Bloggers Night. It was raining hard and traffic was terrible but fortunately, we managed to get to the venue on time. While a lot of blogggers got late (and understandably so), it didn't stop us from enjoying the crab feast the restaurant especially prepared for us. We literally ate the night away, what with the 24 crab dishes presented to us. Gosh, that was a loooooot of crab goodness in one sitting/eating!

photo 2

At the Red Crab Alimango House - Lucky Chinatown, there are 24K or 24 ways to enjoy your crabs. It was hard remembering the exact tastes of the 24 crab dishes we had the pleasure of tasting that night, but I'll try my best to explain each of them, especially my top favorites which are pictured below:

photo 5

1. Crab Sinigang sa Sampalok. This served as the "soup" of my crab-heavy meal. It was sour and hot, perfect to warm my chilly body (because of the heavy rains). It had some vegetables so it was quite healthy, too.

photo 2

2. Crab Adobo sa Buko. I like insanely rich food, and this one is exactly like that. Imagine fatty crabs delicately stewed in aligue (crab roe) and buko (young coconut meat). I loved the rich flavor of the aligue kissing the sweet taste of buko. It's one fantastic dish that I'll never get tired of.

photo 4

3. Chinese Salted Egg Crab. This looked like breaded fried chicken to me, except that the salted egg breading was so flavorful and tasty that I ate it on its own. And with steamed rice. Perfect!

photo 5

4. Onion Crab. Fresh leeks are sauteed slowly along with other spices and thrown over freshly-cooked crabs. I paired the saucy leeks to my rice and dissected the crabs with my bare hands. I super enjoyed this!

photo 1

5. Crab Lilian. This is my top favorite. I love everything stewed in coconut milk. It's my weakness. In layman's terms, this is ginataang alimango na may kangkong at sili. Just the creamy sauce and the tender vegetables were enough to make me eat cups of rice. I just had to control myself because I was pregnant and didn't want to gain more weight than I should. :(

photo 5

6. Crab Pateros with Aligue and Balut. This was very good, too. Rich and flavorful (and cholesterol-laden, too!), I couldn't ask for more. The crabs were fresh and fatty, there was no way I could escape them. And so I ate to my heart's content and worried about the cholesterol later. Ouch.

photo 4

7. Deep Fried Crabs with Togue in Sichuan Sauce. If you're fond of spicy food, then this one's for you. The spice level is tolerable, though, unless you'll pour the hot and spicy sauce down your throat in one gulp. I liked that they put a lot of sweet-tasting togue (mung bean sprouts) in this dish to balance out the spice.

As for the rest, which was way too many to mention, I have the pictures here and the brief descriptions. Please help yourself. All I can say is that they're all delish, too, but not my faves. To each his own, I guess. Without further a do, here they are:

photo 1

8. Fidel Pepper's Crab. This crab is delicately flavored with five secret spices and mixed with lots of freshly-cracked peppercorn to achieve its color. Did you know that this was named after former President Fidel Ramos? Cool, huh!

photo 5

9. Crab Alvarez. This is crab simmered in a special coconut and turmeric sauce. This dish was actually named after Chef Alvarez, the one responsible for all the yummy crab dishes at the restaurant.

photo 1

10. Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter Crab. This is deep-fried crab with noodles topped with chili, salted black beans and lots of garlic.

photo 4

11. Butter Ginger Crab. This is steamed crab tossed in a light butter, garlic and ginger sauce.

photo 2

12. Roasted Garlic Crab. This is crab sauteed in butter and roasted garlic served with chili vermicelli noodles.

photo 3

13. Crab Tausi. This is deep-fried crab sauteed in ginger, onion, tausi and oyster sauce topped with fresh tomato slices.

photo 3

14. Crab 7. This is crab steamed in lime soda served with chili, lemongrass and ginger vinegar.

photo 1

15. Salted Egg Crab. This is steamed crab in a tomato, onion and salted egg sauce served with grilled eggplant salad.

photo 2

16. Thai Chili Crab. This is crab simmered in red curry sauce and spiced with green chilies.

photo 2

17. Crab Singapura. This is fried crab in a mild spicy Singaporean style sauce served with golden fried buns.

photo 3

18. Malaysian Chili Kangkong Crab. This is a hot and spicy crab dish cooked Malaysian style with fresh kangkong.

photo 4

19. Crab Maritess. Named after Maritess Revilla-Martinez, this crab is sauteed in olive oil, garlic and fresh chilies, deglazed with white wine.

photo 5

20. Szechuan Crab. This is crab sauteed in sweet, spicy and gingery Szechuan sauce.

photo 1

21. Crab Singang sa Gabi at Kamias. This crab is cooked in a lemongrass broth with kamias and gabi.

And here are the ones I missed taking photos of (by this time, I was so stuffed already, that's why, haha):

22. Balikbayan Crab. This is sauteed crab with tuyo, garlic and tomato confit.

23. Crab Sotanghon. This is crab simmered in sweet oriental sauce served with sotanghon noodles (glass noodles).

24. Raymund's Salt and Pepper Crab. This is battered and deep-fried crab flavored with aromatic spices topped with sweet onion and onion leeks.

You can learn more about them at The Red Crab Alimango House's Official FB Page.

Size does matter. The bigger the crabs, the better. Here's the price guide to help you decide on your orders:

Middle Weight: P145.00 per 100g.
Big Crabs: P155.00 per 100g.
King Crabs: P165 per 100g.
Female Crabs (said to be the fattiest of the bunch!): P165.00 per 100g.

Nothing beats eating crabs with your bare hands! And I'm just glad to hear that Red Crab Alimango House observes high standards with respect to their precious seafood offering. Their live crabs are sourced from Davao and Zamboanga, flown in here in Manila regularly via Cebu Pacific. Now that's what you call attention to detail, getting only from the best sources.

Blackbeard's Seafood Island: Sumptuous Seafood Feast for the Entire Family

Back in my high school years, when I would spend my summer vacation over at my uncle's place in Muntinlupa, he and my aunt would occasionally take me to her parent's house in Ayala Alabang and just before going home, we would drop by Alabang Town Center (ATC) to see and get something either for ourselves or for their house. It's been ages since the last time I went to ATC. So when I was given the chance to check the place out, with my blogger friends this time, I didn't hesitate to go. But other than the sights and the shops, our mission was centered solely on food. We were there to sample the offerings of Blackbeard's Seafood Island, another awesome restaurant under the Red Crab Group.

bsi-k

For this food trip, I had quite high expectations as I have tried eating at other Red Crab restaurants before (John Bamboo and The Flying Pig). As it turned out, my expectations were met and our Sunday lunch was a gastronomic success.

The dishes on our table:

bsi-lPinoy Nachos, P165

bsi-c
Steamed Lapu-Lapu, starts at P999

bsi-i
Sampler de Grande, P685

bsi-g
Tali Beach, P1150 (5 to 6 persons)

bsi-o
Prawns in Chili and Garlic, P425

bsi-r
Let's do the Liempo, P185

bsi-t
Crispy Sisig con Bagnet, 195

bsi-p
Pakbet de Vigan with Bagnet, P240

bsi-a
Pork BBQ (5 pcs.), P220

bsi-b
Ensalatang Urdaneta, P175

Among the dishes served to us which were mostly Pinoy favorites, the stand-outs for me were the Halaan Soup (the perfect way to warm my body and whet my appetite!), the Garlic and Cheese Overload Oysters (ate more than my share of this seafood that was oozing with cheesy goodness!), the Crispy Diniguan (loved the crispy chicken intestines and the tantalizingly sour sauce!) and the Tuna and Crabmeat Sisig (rich in yummy seafood meat and had just the right kick from the chilies!). I must have liked the food so much because I was already asking for rice even if we we we're still into appetizers! Funny but true. Haha. When the entrees came, I had to limit my rice intake or run the risk of getting bloated with all the food in front of me. Hay, I could only eat so much food.

bsi-e
Tuna and Crabmeat Sisig, P250

Our desserts had a Pinoy touch. It's called 2nd Floor and consisted of suman (glutinous rice cake), ripe mango slices, banana turon and palitao with a glass of vanilla ice cream in the middle. This came in a big platter and was perfect for sharing.

2nd Floor, P320

Blackbeard's Seafood Island is the place to go for families (or group of friends) who would like to celebrate milestones over a seafood feast. Their food come in big servings that partaking of them is a no-brainer. They even offer boodle combos (prices start at P675 for a group of 3-4 persons) that are sure to unleash the "happy eater" in you. If you're fond of seafood and some grilled meats, the restaurant has a lot of dishes to choose from depending on your budget and of course, appetite.

bsi-q

To wash down all the seafood goodness, I suggest getting the perfect drink. Mine was a tall glass of fresh guyabano juice. I love, love, love guyabano! It's not just thirst-quenching but also packed with nutrients (some are known to have cancer-fighting properties). It was too sweet for my liking, though. (I think it'd be great if the staff at the bar would go easy with their sugar/syrup.) They also serve cocktails and other alcoholic beverages because they also double as a bar at night.

bsi2

While the ambience at Blackbeard's Seafood Island is cozy and laidback with a tropical beach mood, the service was warm, fast and friendly.

bsi1

The man behind the restaurant's extensive seafood menu, on the other hand, is John Paul Sentero. We met him during our sumptuous lunch and he was kind enough to answer our food-related questions and take his photo with us.

bsi-s

Our group was among the first diners to arrive in the restaurant and I was surprised to see that after we have settled on our table, people started coming in to eat. With the many restaurants that dot the second level of ATC, I think Blackbeard's Seafood Island stands out because of one thing: their delightful seafood feast that's perfect for the entire family. Seriously, I can't wait to go back.
